Fact Sheet No. 12

Care & Cultivation of Cyclamen

TEMPERATURE: Place in a cool and airy situation, 14-16C°, avoiding sudden temperature change. If the temperature is too high, the leaves yellow and the flowers wither. In warmer houses placing the plant close to the window glass can help to lower the plants temperature.

A warm room means a short life for a Cyclamen

LIGHT: Bright light, away from direct sunlight.

WATERING: Water sparingly. Let the compost dry a little before watering. Do not saturate; over watering can also cause wilting.

PROBLEMS SOLVED:

YELLOWING FOLIAGE, CROWN FIRM AND HEALTHY: Usually caused by hot, dry air. Cyclamen dislike temperatures above 60F°. Other possible causes are under watering and hot, direct sunlight.

PLANT WILTING, CROWN SOFT AND ROTTEN: Over watering, especially from above. Never let water stand on the fleshy crown.

SHORT FLOWERING PERIOD: There are many possible reasons for this – too much warmth, incorrect watering or dry air. Feed every two to three weeks with a good houseplant fertiliser.
