Welcome to Daleside Nurseries.
Plan your year with our quick tips
Beautiful magnolias.

May.....

Bulbs may be fading, but the herbaceous border is starting to come to life. Sowing seeds and planting out bedding will begin soon, as long as there are no frosts, always worth checking the weather forecast. As May can often be the driest time of the year, collect rainwater using water butts for watering as required, especially when plants are coming into flower or fruits are appearing. Towards the end of the month, harden off bedding plants, so they don’t suffer being transferred from greenhouse to garden. On particularly hot and sunny days, ventilate and shade your conservatory or greenhouse, to prevent temperatures getting too high. Protect any precious plants with fleece and stake any perennials growing in herbaceous borders, to prevent possible storm damage.

Wisteria for.....May

wisteria With masses of sweetly scented cascading flowers of blue, lilac, pink or white, wisterias are truly one of the most remarkable sights in any garden and undoubtedly the most aristocratic member of the pea family. They are very adaptable climbers and can be trained against a wall, up into a tree, over arches and pergolas or simply up a post. They are hardy and robust and their needs are simple. Give them a well-drained , fertile soil and a sheltered, predominately sunny position and they will give you spectacular floral displays for years to come.

All our plants are grafted and will usually flower within three to four years of grafting, significanty quicker than plants grown from seed.

For more information about growing wisteria see our care and cultivation guide.
